A discussion at
Harvard Business School with two titans of Pakistani industry, Syed Babar Ali
and Hussain Dawood. Pakistan is the
world’s 6th largest country and a critical emerging market, having
steadily grown GDP and foreign direct investment over the past 7 years. The discussion will address the opportunities
and challenges facing business investment in emerging markets and will be
moderated by HBS Professors Louis Wells and Karim Lakhani as well as Ken Morse,
Managing Director of the MIT Entrepreneurship Center.

Mr. Syed
Babar Ali is the founder of
Pakistan’s largest paper and board mill, Packages Limited, and the country’s
largest food processing company, Nestle Pakistan Ltd. He serves on the Board of
Directors of the local subsidiaries/affiliates of Siemens, Nestle, and Coca
Cola. Mr. Babar Ali has served as
Pakistan’s Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs & Planning and has won
several awards and accolades from the Government of Sweden, the Netherlands and
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Mr.
Babar Ali attended the 65th Advanced Management Program (AMP) at
Harvard Business School 1973.
Mr. Hussain
Dawood heads one of Pakistan’s
largest business conglomerates with interests in Fertilizers, Chemicals,
Energy, Chemical Terminal, Gas Distribution and Transmission, Foods, IT,
Textiles, Insurance and Brokerage. He is the Chairman of Engro Chemicals,
Dawood Hercules, The Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and on the Board of Directors
of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines and Shell Pakistan. He is also is a former
Director of the State Bank of Pakistan and Advisor to the Ministry of Commerce.
Mr. Dawood was also the first Pakistani member of the World Economic Forum
(WEF) and is a Global Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE).
Mr. Dawood holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of
Management, Northwestern University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy from
Sheffield University, UK.
