Addie Swartz, Founder and CEO of B*tween Productions, Inc.

Addie Swartz is the founder and CEO of B*tween Productions, Inc, home of the Beacon Street Girls award-winning book series and website for preteen girls.

Addie created the Beacon Street Girls in 2002 to provide positive role models and healthy messages for tween girls, whatever their challenges. Today, eight Beacon Street Girls volumes have sold more than 300,000 copies, have “super-fans” in 40 countries and are available through leading book stores and online. Related BSG products are sold at more than 650 independent gift shops and through the COPPA-compliant Beacon Street Girl website (www.beaconstreetgirls.com )

A longtime entrepreneur with a commitment to developing quality products for children, Addie founded BrightIdeas in 1992. The company sold educational software to parents and teachers and was acquired by Addison Wesley in 1996. Addie has also held senior positions at The Walt Disney Company, Lotus Development, and Reebok.

Addie has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Inc. Magazine, Working Woman Magazine, Child Magazine, Working Mother Magazine, Good Morning America and MSNBC.

Addie currently lives in Boston with her husband and two daughters, ages 11 and 14. She is a graduate of Stanford University, and received her MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Lois E. Quam, President of Public and Senior Markets Group, UnitedHealth Group.

Lois Quam is the president of UnitedHealth Group’s Public and Senior Markets Group. In this capacity, Ms. Quam oversees Ovations, a $25 billion enterprise dedicated solely to improving the health and well-being of adults age 50 and older, and AmeriChoice, which is focused on serving beneficiaries of Medicaid and other government-sponsored health programs.

Quam is also responsible for leading UnitedHealth Group’s capabilities in communications, public relations and government affairs, and for leading the company’s efforts in corporate social responsibility and health care policy. Quam joined UnitedHealth Group in 1989 as director of Research and Development, and served as the founding chief executive officer of Ovations from 1997 to 2006.

Quam has received bipartisan acclaim for her work in improving services to chronically ill Medicare beneficiaries. She served as chair of the Minnesota Health Care Access Commission and was a senior advisor to the 1993 White House Task Force on National HealthCare Reform. A native of rural southwestern Minnesota, Quam earned a master’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. A graduate of Macalester College, Quam resides in St. Paul, Minn. with her husband and their three sons.
